Rejoicing in Japan.

Prostrated Hopes. ADVANTAGE WITH THE JAPANESE. LONDON, May ill. The Daily Telegraph's Seoul correspondent reports that by four o'clock on Sunduy afternoon Admiral Hozhdestvcnsky was completely defeated. The Japanese went in pursuit of tho remnant, and severe lighting continued, a battleship und cruiser being sunk. 'lhe Japanese also captured a warship, which was damaged severely, being clean swept by shell fire. Eventually she sank, but the crew were captured. This apparently refers to the Vladimir Momomakh, which is consonant with advices received by the Japanese Minister at Washington, who was informed that she was captured and then foundered. Other reports state that there is tremendous rejoicing in Japun. The battle conditions were ideal. The Japanese had the advantage of greater spejd, and starlight assisted the work of the destroyers. The total number of Russian ships engaged was twenty-six. Admiral Rozhdestvensk'y hoped to reach Vladivostok without a battltv and expected that if they were attacked it would be chiefly on tho starboard.

The fate of Rear-admirals Eurkuest and Botrovsky is unknown. ~ The vessel yesterday reported to have put into Iwani is probably the cruiser I/.umrtid, which has not been accounted for.
