T»# Clinton correspondent , of the Clutha Free Press writes that some of the rabbit trappers in that neighbourhood have had good innings lately. Three brotfceea earned over £2B for.their last fortnight's trapping.. An usual ceremony took place at St. Mark's Church, Wellington, oft Sunday evening, when, in the pre»» •n'ce of a large congregation, a wellknown Chineso merchant (Dye Chum) was baptised by th# Bishop of Wellington. This ceremony was really the first fruit of the Chinese, mission in the city conducted by Mr Daniel Wong. A large number of Chinese attended the service at St. Mark's. It is stated (writes a London correspondent) by the Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company that an experimental shipment of chilled beef from New Zealand has again bain made. About 30 quarters were brought by the s.s. Kaipara, and although the meat was actually delivered in a Chilled condition, and not hard fonzen, ,as has happened previously, I am told the experiment' can • scarcely be considered successful. The beef is described as being of excellent quality, but Is damaged by inould ; very few quarters were sold whole, for the majority were cut into pieces. It is feared that there is. little livelihood of chilled beef being brought successfully from New Zealand until a considerable reduction can be made in the time taken on, the voyage.; :1,-i
