INDUSTRIES OK NEW ZEALAND. SOME AMAZING ADVANCES. WELLINGTON, May 27. A leaflet lias just been issued from the tti'gisitrar-Gciierurs ofliccs containing .statistical comparisons of various New Zealand industries und interests in 1894 and 1904/ The population has increased from 086,128 to 857,589, Hie number of occupied holdings from 46,670 to 08,08O; and the land in cultivation from 10,128,070 to 13,808,074 acres. A remarkable feature of the live stock figures is the increase in cattle from 004,084 to 1,730,850, while thee has been a falling oil in sheep from 20,230,829 to 18,280,800. With the exception of wool, the export of which has dropped from £4,827,016 to £4,673,820, exports showlarge, and in some instances, amazing advances. Thus the grain export has increased from. £220,182 to £392,250, and frozen meat from £l,194.545 to £2,793,599 (a gain of 133.83 per cent) Mutter has increased ,over four-fold, the pi -..gross being from £251,280 to £1,380,160. Flax lias increased nearly a thousand fold. The figures for flax in the two years arc £66,256 and £710,281. Gold s'liows an increase from £887,865 to £1,987,501, or .123.85 per Cfnt. Provisions, tallow, timber, etc., have advanced 80.54 per cent. Altogether our ■ exports have increased from £9,085,148 to £14,033,273 during the decade, or 61.07 per tent The imports have nearly doubled, the figure- being £6,788.020 nnd £.13.291.69!. The colli output has increased from 719.546 tons to 1,537,838 tons. The railway receipts have olmost doubled, the increase being from £l,130.853 to £2,209,231. The bank deposits (average of four quarter!) have advanced from £13,927,217 to £1.9.074,960. and Hie assets from £17,710.121 to £20,893,096. The number of depositors in saving banks has nearly doubled, nnd the amount to credit has more than doubled, the figures being £4,000,594 to £8,839,307. The number of policies in force in the Government Insurance- OIPco has increased from 32,907 to 44,194, and the amount insured from £9,232,513 to £11,261,080.
