WELLINGTON, May 29, A well dressed young man named John,,alias William -Marsden appearbjforo the Stipendiary Magistrate .I s ,mn-nin K on a charge of being an ;iaie and disorderly person. The man ■ was shown to be a confidence trick 'swindler, and was sent ta gaol fori 'liwve months.. Frederick William Bradshaw stated that he met defendant and other men at Hobart. Defendant offered to give w-itness £SO if he. woijld produce' what money he had. £3O eventually passed into defendant's keeping. Witness was placed qn the steamer for the Bluff, and given 5s for pocket money. Detective Broberg stated that the accused -had suggested that witness should participate in the. proceeds of any similar swindling that might be done.
