PERSONAL NOTES.

The death is reported from Christchurch of Mrs Barrell, who arrived in Lyttclton in 1855.

Miss Kose Musgrovc, who played so cleverly a low months ago in "The 'Marriage of Kitty" and other comedies, hus returned to comic opera, and is playing the leading soubrette role in ''The Cingalese," in Sydney.

Chief-Guide Clark, who has been stationed at the Mount Cook HcruiiItnge during the summer months, arrived in Wellington on Saturday, and will, as* Usual spend the winter? ak the head office of the Tourist Department.

Sir Joseph Ward leaves for Stratford where lie will receive a number of deputations. Later in the morning ho will go on to Elthnm to open the new post office, and in the evening he will be l banqueted, and will deliver an addrcsd subsequently. On Saturday he will receive deputations at l'almerston North, and lay the foundation-stone of the new. post office, returning to Wellington in the evening.

Professor Rutherford, a Taranak'i boy who has achieved the highest distinction in the scientific world, will pay a visit to Now Plymouth shortly. A movement is on foot to accord him a fitting welcome, and at Tuesday's meeting the Turunnki Education Board decided to co-operate in the movement. Tho High School Board resolved at the last meeting to join in the arrangements.

Mr W.
