At a meeting of householders ofi the York and Surrey Roads, held a Mr Jihn Crofskey's residence, York Road, Midhirst, on the evening o the 12th inst., a resolution was car ried unanimously to the effect tha> a school was urgently required at once for the education of their child rcn.- THey considered the present state of affairs very unsatisfactory as the children had too far to walk; to the nearest school, and it wa; very dangerous to the younger children to have to cross rivers and creeks, scramble over logs a-ndl hrough scrub, etc. In consequence of this drawback the majority of the ohildren were only able to attend school about hall time. Messrs J. Moore and J. Crotskey, representin the reisdents, waited OB the Taranaki Education Board on Tuesday wifcß a petition, asking tor the erec tion of a school, the site suggested being on Derby Road, a bye-road between the York end Surrey Roads A list ot children residing in the area was put in* In discussion' tho members ol the Board agreed that it was a case of injustice to the sottiers, and decided to lajy the ease before the Education Department, with the recommendation that the petition be granted. It was mentioned that the matter was considered some two years ago and the request approved, but that for s o mo reason an application was never sent to the Department.
