New Plymouth Harbour Board.
HOSTHLY MEETING.The New Plymoutfi Harbour Board met on Friday. There were present, Messrs Jvß. Connebt (chairman> G. McLean, Newton King, J. T.Tho'm- * Bon, R. Price, R. W. Hornby, J. Hine and E. Maxwell. —A Complaint.— The borough sanitary inspector ' wrote pointing our the danger of the practice of depositing rubbish on the vacant land belonging to the Board near Brougham and Ariki Streets. It was decided to notify the tenants to discontinue the practice. —Wharf Repairs.— Mr MoTgan, branch manager of the Xition Steamship Co., wrote stating that .when instructed to pay the Board the cost of repairing the wharf, £152 17s 2d, caused by the Takapuna aepident in January last, he was degjred to point obt that the cost would not have been so heavy by £SO had the wharf been re-built by a square corner. The rounding that has 1 been clone was, however, a great ad-i vantage of vessels !ierihing in tad weather, and therefore the claim had been paid in full. Mr Morgan further stated that masters had pointed out that the work was not quite complete, the sheathing requiring to be taken down to low water mark. He asked the Bpard to do what was ne- ■- cessary before the winter weather set
in. The foreman is to be instructed to put the work, referred to in hand. : —Breakwater Extension.— The foreman ■ reported that after' completing the second section and extending, the rails, stone tipping was 'resu.uied at the breakwater, and 1500 tons was put over, three concrete * blocks' being worked in along with it. The foundation of concrete for the third scVtion bad been completed.buf on the f3-tn inst., the sea coming up • heavily from the N.W., levelled down ' the advani** rubble and washed out a, portion of the concrete in the fronfe The damage, .however, would cause n 0 delay to the .work. It was therefore, advisable to move to the oUier face fronting raritutn, This would take from six to eight days, and quarrying could be commenced at the new f aco at once. The rails tffere worn badly in some parts of the permanent way, and about 50 rails and 200 sleepers were required. . j ~ The reporjt was adopted, and the foreman is i.o be instructed to increase the number of rails to 100. The date for the suspension of work was left fade-finite. —Accident Insurance Case.— The New Z Zealand Accident Insurance Company wrote that the report was incorrect that the Company bad offered to sctille the claim of a casual employee <yriu> had bc-en injured whilst loading coal on the wharf) at the rate of lis 6d per hour.
