Letters were read from F. S. Cooper, as lo non-residency on section 4, block 13, OmoiiM, ami from W. A. Tutn, in respect of section 2, block 11 Omona. It was decided to pr.mt two years' extension of time in which to comply \u!th the Act owing to the present dilliculties of access. Jas. Johnston explained why improvements on section 1.8, block 9, Totovo, had not been effected. Three months' extension of time was granted. F. E. Doyle wrote that sickness had prevented him from effecting improvements on section 24', block 3, Ohtira. Resolved that an extension ofj three months be granted. In the following cases no answer having been received to notice to show cause for non-improvement, it was decided that the interests ot the persons be declared forfeited :W. Olsen, section 4, block 1(5, Alia ;J. McMullen, .section 6, block 12, Aria; E. C. Murton, section 18, block 1, Aria.
—Plans.— A plan and schedule of three sections on Ohut'n Hoad, between Matiri and Mangorua, surveyed by Mr W. T. Morpeth, were again laid on the table. It was resolved that sections 12, block 8, and '2rt block 2, Ofuira, be reserved from sale for the present on account of valuable timber thereon ; that the report on section 13 be adopted and the land offered for selection under the lease in perpetuity, under the Land Act, 1892. A plan and schedule in Aria village 'Totoro South), wore laid on the tab'e, and the matter was 'left in the hands of the Commissioner.
A plan of part section 3, block 12, ">59. acres o roods 29 perches,, was submitted, and it was decided that ihe land be reserved from sale for the ,rowth and preservation of timber. A plan of parts of sections 1 and !, block 5, Ohura, 375 acres and 115 iC'.es approximately, proposed to be resumed, was submitted, and it was lecided to reserve the land for timber.
—Leave.— 0. H. Matthews applied for twelve nonths' lenvo of absence from sections 15 and 16, block 14, Upper Waitara, on account of ill-health of his vife, the doctor having orderod her iway from the bush for the present. —Granted.
J. T. Floyd applied for six months' leave of absence from section s,block lO.N'gatimaru, us he washed to visit he Old Country.—Approved. —Accommodation for Stock.—
Mr McCluggage brought up the lue;tion of providing a reserve for (ho accommodation of travelling itock, pointing out that tne Ohura iload will be used for driving stock letwcen Whangamomona and Ohura country via Tangarakiau (Jorge, and : f accommodation was made at, say, Pahora, feed would be obtained wh»n he river could not be crossed. Tho Hoard decided thai the -ocal >ody should make application for the •esorve to be made. —Assessed Thirds.—
Proposals for the expenditure of ccrued thirds were subm tted by the lakura Road Hoard £8 11s :M. and >kato Itoad Hoard £75 His (id. The roposals were approved. Oka to bene subject to the ranger's report.
Hanger's Hcport.— Mr Hamm, ranger, reported on the inspection of GO holdings, and Mr Thurston on 33 holdings in Aria and .htira /districts. In the case of the former it was decided to notify Ihose in defiuilf to show cause for noncompliance. and both reports were regarded as satisfactory and adopted. —Exchange.—
In reference to the occup.nl ion by the. Bonds Department of blocks 7 and 9, Mangaroa, nnd in view of the reluirfiiieiits of the settlers around the township the Board jjassed a motion hat it was desirious of elTecting an -■xchangc of the i)addock at present iccupied by the Department for somt ither paddock in the locality'.
—Applications,— J. I'earce applied for a lease of section 23, block 14, Ohura, adjoining his present holding to give him ,l better fencing line and to provide timber for use on the hokliiiir. Itesolved to inform applicant that as he -annot hold moro than 20<> acres the land cannot be allotcd to liiui, and ihnt hu be asked how main trees he <c.'|iiii'os from it, also what trees he las on his own place. The Ohura Settlers' Association -asked that section 2, block 7, Man,'ai'oa, at present reserved for general (Jovernment buildings, be set a[>art lor public hall and library. It was lecided to defer consideration until irrangements can be made with the Itoad Department for an exchange ol the preent paddock for another site in th® township, .1. II" Morris, J>. Barker, T, 8. Sedge, S. Sedge and J. W. Sedge apilietl for about 200 acres each of the forest reserve at the back of their rorespcctive holdings in blocks 2 and 3, Omona. The matter was referred to the Commissioner with power to act. 0. I'ittams applied to exchange section 8 block 9, Totoro, for another nearer civilisation on account of having a young family to provide for. The Hoard could not see its way to grant the application, and unless conditions were complied with the land would be allotted to others. A. H. llyde, who has a sawmill license on part-section 1, block lfi. Aria, asked permission to cut rimu and matai trees from the remainder of the section, as it was all white pine on the land he has at present. I he matter was left to the Commissioner.
—Miscellaneous.— In the case of six selectors owing three or more instalments of rent, besides the current one, it was decided that unless the amount be paid by next meeting legal proceedings shail be taken.
On the motion of Mr Rattenbnry it was decided to bring under the notice of the Minister for Lands the urgent necessHy of at once forming the portion of the Oilura Roa<l, nqrth of the Hengarahiau river, to allow the settlers of the Oh ura district a better and cheaper access to their farms. Mi- Malone waited on the Hoard with reference to the Old Avenneßoad to which Mr Saxton desires to obtain a little.—Consideration deferred. In the ens# of R. E, Shewr.v ami 11. .1. O'Keefe it was decided in view of the special circumstances owing to their hollies being rendered uninhabitable, the Ooverruuent be recommended to remit one year's rent. I). Margetts asked if the Hoard would, in the event of his taking a lease .of part section 21, block fi, k'apavn. protect his improvements when his tenancy is terminated, It was resolved that a yearlv lease be granted at a rental in terms of the ranger's report, and that his improvements will be projected if it is decided that, the land be offered for sale later on.
