Chola had faced the barrier on 14 occasions, resulting in five firsts, one dead heat for first, and one second. C. O'Neil, rider of Wild Cat, appears to have a partiality for tho Hawera course. At the Summer Meeting he rode Lnuree to victory. Lnuree acted as runner up on the second day. An 'interesting feature is that in the four hurdle races mentioned, Throstle has been the nearest attendant to C. O'Ncil's mounts.

Mr Parsons disposed of Shrapnel prior to the Hawera meeting. the gelding treating his new owner to n win at first start. Shrapnel ran in the nomination of Mr .las. Coombe, who is reported to have paid the sum of £BOO.

Forty jockeys had mounts at Hawera last week, out of which only eight succeeded in getting on the winning list, viz., C. Jenkins with live, O. O'Neil and A. Oliver two, K. Harlow, C. Price, W. Hnynor, W. H. Mackay, and T. O'Hrien one each. C. Jenkins' record must be formidable. He rode five winners at the meeting out of eight mounts.

Hlessbok is slated to be in great nick. He was the fittest horse at the above meeting, and will take some beating in the winter handicaps.

Queen Bess, who won the Hurdles on the second day of the Marlborough meeting, comes from a jumping family. Her dam, Ala, is a full sister to Wairua, by Somnus—Wairuareka (by the Painter—.Mystery Girl), and half-sister to Tiritea, a successful cross-country performer. .

Waiwera figured in the Inst Century Hurdles with 12sl 31b. Mr Morse, has let him in with 271b less this time, and if tho old horse is in any- form at all he should beat niore than beat him-.
