(We are not responsible for opinions exptossed by correspondents.) THE GOVERNOR. (To the Editor.) Sir,—l learn from the newspaporp that our new Governor, Lord Plun*el, is paying, official visits to all ■iorts of places, and the enquiry has irisen in my own mind, "Why' does ■ie not come to New Plymouth ? " 1 •iuppose it is because he has not been invited. I hope our energetic Mayor .vill gjivo a. lead to the citizens to initiate a movement with the object ol a visit from His Excellency md Lady Plunket. it s quite time •hey became acquainted with our lovely town, together, with its unrivalled iccreution Grounds, as also the his'oric Spots in tho neighbourhood, which arc worthy of notice, closely identified with the early settlement of he district. Besides which there is tho inevitable- trip to Mount Egtnont, with tho experience of "roughing it" by spending a night at the Mountain House.—l am, etc., NEW PLYMOUTH.
I'HE MANAKAII—NEW PLYMOUT STEAMER SERVICE.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l notice that tne Chamber of Coanmerca has at last considered the :bovo question, and passed a resolution deprecating a return to the curtailed service I think, however, that something more might be done. It has been reported that Sir J. G. A'ard is shortly to visit New Plymouth, and it would helpthis mat tcr if an influential deputation of citizen's waited upon tho Minister who hns charge of the departments most ■iffocted, viz., Postal and Railways. A personal interview is much more satisfactory than communications by correspondence, and a strong and firm presentation on the matter of maintaining regular and frequent mail connections between the north and south islands is of colonial importance I ■ feel sui-o the I>cst results would accrue. lam not a member of the Chamber of Commerce, but I have a warm Interest in anything which affects the welfare of the community, ind this question in connection with the outside world is a vital one to .is in our isolated position. Unless ve make a push for it, the daily service will slip from us. I hope some further action will hie promptly tnken. Tho question is, which local body is to lead the community—the Tradesmen's Association or the Chamber of Commerce.—l am, etc. ADVANCE.
