RESOLUTIONS OF TIIE OTAGO BOARD. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 5. A special meeting' of the Education Boaid, lty;ld to-day to consider educational muttons, passed the following resolutions : That in the opinion of thte Board the centralising tendencies of the Education Department are inimical to the work of education in New Zealand, and that instead of Parliament diininijshing the powers of Education; Boards they should bo extended on sound and economic lines ; that better provision should bo made for conveying children to eentral schooM in sparsely populated districts ; that the age limit for qualifying for obtaiaing free secondary education be extended as far as country districts are concerned ; that adequate encouragement should be given to our most capable youths to enter and remain in the teaching profession; that in to relieve the Department of those teachers who have passed their years of usefulness a superannuation scheme bo passed by the Government. It was decided to forward the resolutions to the Minister for Educasion, to local members of Parliament, and to other Boards. The pupil teachers 1 regulations were considered!, and it was decided to forward them to tho Department for approval. The Chief Inspector reported having conferred with the InspectorGeneral,. when several alterations were agreed to.' Instead of one entrants examination l there jrere now three. Those who began at the beginning oti a four year course had to pass tEe Board's entrance examination, those who entered on the Civil Service examination were appointed as third year pupil teachers (serving three years) and those who entered upon the Matriculation examination served two years. Then there was a reversion to the old order whereby a pupil teacher wlio tailed twice in succession to pass the Civil Service examination is to be dispensed with.
