Road Board Annual Meetings.

EGMONT. At the annual meeting 01' ratepayers in the Egniont Hood Hoard district; hold at the office of the sec? rotary (Mr P. C. Morton), the Chun-man of the Hoard (Mr Howe) presided over a moderate attendance. Thu balance-sheet lor the year ending March 31 gave the following particulars Receipts.—General rales 1904-05 £313 9s lid, l'.Ki.'l-ol £lO 17 S ad, previous years £.'! ss, interest 3s 3di sundry receipts £.ll, 'iYeasury subsidy £79 16s 111 ; total £433* is 9d. The amount of rates outstanding was £2B 2s 2(1.

Expenditure. Mebit balance on March 31, I'.lOl, £52 TVs 7d ; expended on various roads £3l(i f s lOd, sundry accounts £72 13s 7d, transferred to Egmont loan account £0 18s 7d ; total £448 11s 7d, leaving a credit balance of £(j 7s 2d in hand.

The details- of expenditure on roads were Smart ltoad £9 18s 9d, Egmont and Kuipi Roads £llO 13s 7d, llenwood and I'plund Uoad £9O 12s !id, I'uraite Road £3, Wills ltoad £l7 13s, King and Hursthouse Iload | £6O 15s, Bishop ltoad £7, I'platul I liond £3 19s, L'orbett Koad 9s. On Egmont loan "account Hie d(.'l)it at the end of 1904 was £9B lis 7d. ' A sum of £145 ,19s 2d received from the Treasury, and £6 18s 7d from general account, had been expended during the year, making up, the balance of the £(500 loan. Of the £950 loan for King and Hursthouse ltoads £478 14s Id had been expended, leaving a balance for future work of £471 5s lid. On the motion of Mr Rowe, seconded by Mr Martin, tin bulanceshcet was adopted. (i rat ilic.it ion was ■expressed at the improved financial condition of the Hoard, and at the satisfactory work done during the year. The election to fill two vacancies on the ltoaixi has resulted in Messrs Herbert Martin and Frederick Davy being re-elected.

I3ARKETT. The annual meeting of ratepayers in the Barrett Houd Hoard district was called for Friday uf tor noon, at the office of the secretary (Mr I'. 0. Morton), but a quorum was not in attendance. The returning officer announced to those present that Messrs Alfred George and Barrett Hone.vficld had been elected to fill the vacancies. The balance-sheet could not be adopted, but was laid on the table, ft showed receipts as follows :—(Jenera 1 rate 8904-05 £IJB4 18s 4d, 190304 £25 6s lid, interest Is 4d, contribution from Veale's estate toward road construction £2O, sundries Ts 6d, Government subsidy £lO liOs 4d, total £271 4s fid.

The items of expenditure totalled £224 4s 6d, including the debit balance on March 31, 1904, of £B9 14s Id.

The amount spent on the various roads totalled £95 9s 6d. There was a credit balance of £46 19s lid on March 31. The ordinary meeting of the Board was then proceeded with, Mr A. George being voted to the chair. Messrs Callaghan and l.ennon, on behalf of Veale's estate, who arc constructing a road, asked permission to take away certain earth to widen the embankment. The application was deferred, as the Board hus not yet jurisdiction over the land in question. It was decided to request the Tarauaki County Council to make an entrance to Calvert lload, on the north side of the South lload.

The warrant confirming the appointment of the borough insijector for inspection purposes, to act in an honorary capacity, was duly_ signed. The clerk was instructed to place a l'st of outstanding rates- in the Imnds of the Board's l solicitor for collection, proceedings to be instituted against defaulters. Accounts amounting to £4O 16s Id were passed for payment.
