Sir .Joseph and Lady Ward are due lo arrive at Wellington by the Warlimoo to-day.

Miss Annette ICellmnun, the champion latly swimmer of Australia, left Adelaide for London by the Orient liner Ophir last week. The Bishop of Uhristchurch and Mrs Julius are returning to New Zealand by the Kuapeihu. Mr W. C. Kensington, Under-Secre-tary for Lands, is at present in New Plymouth in connection with the native land conliscation. Mr E. W. O'Stillivan, ux-Minister ol I'ublic Works, New South Wales, was a guest of the Savage Club at Wellington on Saturday evening.

Mr B. tJillon, lately purser of the Moana, is acting as sub-agent for the I'nion Company at the Bluil, ■uul his place on tho Moana is being taken by Mr \V. 0. Burnett, of tho Warriinoo.

MrG. C. Hcckett, one of the proprietors of the Danncvirke Daily Press, was on a visit to New Plymouth yesterday. Mr lleckett, who has been on a holiday trip to ttw North, left for his home by the mail train this morning.

On Friday evening, at Napier, Mr S. G. Ross, traveller in llawke's Bay for Archibald Clark and Sons, Ltd., received a number of presentations on the occasion of his departure from the district to take up a more responsible position in Wellington. Mr Ilert Royle has received a letter from Miss - Gertie Campion, in which she expresses her heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the New Zealand people for their kindness and Hljerality towards her, which she says .she considers " magnificently generous." She also thanks Mr Itoyle for his efforts on her behalf. The Hon. W. Hujl-Jones states the number of men working on Mount Egmont 'brunch railway will be increased to fifty, a similar number being put on the lluiroa line when work is resumed'. Owing to lack of time, Mr Hall-Jones' intended inspection of the mountain branch had to be postponed until next visit to Stratford.

Mr Gerald E. Jones, who is in the office of Mr E. Hartley, architect. Auckland, has been awarded the second prize in the British - Colonial section of the Harnet photographic competition. There were some 10,000 competitors (amateur and professional)' from every British colony and dependency, and the competitions were most keen. Mr Jones' subjects were portrait studies of the impressionistic school. Tho Hon. W. Hall-Jones. Minister of Public Works, accompanied by Mrs Hall-Jones and Mr G. 0 Schmidt, private secretary, arrived in Stratford on Monday. Mr W. Symes. M.11.R. and Mrs Symes mot the MirfisUrial party at Huwera. and the Mayor (Mr X. .1. King) welcomed Ihem ut Stratford. The party left for Waitara on Tuesday, from which town a trip will bo made in enmpany with Mr W. T. Jonnings, M.H.H, through the northern portion of the Egmont electorate.

•Mr Patrick J. Nolan, u valued member of the literary staff of the New Zealand Times., has accepted an appoiptment on the staff of the Svdnoy Daily Telegraph. Mr Nolan was formerly connected with the NewZealand Herald a nd the Christchurch Press. The Daily Telegraph is remarkably partial to New ers. Tho editor, (Mr Ward) hails from Tnranaki ; and the chief night sub-editor (Mr Norman) was formerly connected with the Dunedln Evening Star ; Mr 11. Taperell, leader writer, was formerly a reporter but more recently editor of the New Zealand Times ; Mr Charles Mallei- for many years on that paper, is the dramatic critic ; Mr hj, Woolcott, 0 f the Evening Post stalT, wont qver to the Telegraph a few week's ago and now the MaoriJand coterie will be added to by the acquisition of Mr ■Nojan.
