Henui Road Board.

The annual meef.ing ol the Henui Road Board was held at Fltzroy Hall cm Monday evening, Mr Ja.'i. Kibby, chairman of the Board, in thfe chair, about twenty ratepayers being present. The balance sheet, as road by the clerk, Mr C. F. Footc, showed receipts as X 167 13s lOd, exclusive of overdraft £SB 13s sd, and expenses £526 7s 3d ; assets, £l3'j 19s 8d j liailril'itio-i, £SB l ? !s sd.

in reply to u question the chairman explained that in connection with the Harbour Board's gravel yards and the carting therefrom, an amicable arrangement had l;e:'n mad« with the carters and Harbour Hoard, whereby the latter gave 200 yds of metal, and the carters carried 30 loads free for the iioad Board in lieu of a monetary puynient in re's]* ct of extraordinary traffic. Some discussion took place on the probable expenditure for the coming year, the chairman stating that work to the extent uf £l2O was already authorised, and any further expenditure was dependent on what, works were authorised by the Board. It was anticipated that £75 would have to be spent on tho Hospital Road. Mr J.ce raised the (question as to whether it was a wise policy for the Board to allow the roads to be cut up by tho cartnge of stone and to pay the contractor for metal used for mending the damage caused by the carts. The chairman admitted it was a difficult question to settle, hut tho Board was doing the best they could. There : had been a lot of extraordinary traffic caused by the

new waterworks cprried out by tho Borough. The question of the upkeep of tho road to the abattoirs caused sotno discussion, the chairman stating that

the present agreement with the Borouph would shortly expire, and then the maitter would have to be rearranged. Complaints were made that contrary to arrangements with the. Borough, cattle were driven along the F'itzroy end of the abattoir Road instead of by way of Normanb.v Street, and the chairman undertook to endeavour to get the nuisance abated. Tho balance slicet was tlien adopted, and a vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the business.
