CONTINUING THE AGITATION. HOKITIKA, May 1. ■ A very large representative public meeting, including ■delegates from Canterbury,. Nelson, Westport, and all other West Coast centres was hckl in the Town Hall this evening for the purpose" of urging upon the Government the necessity of proceeding with much greater speed with the construction of the Midland railway, and to let the Otira tunnel by contract. It was stated that the exports from tho West Coast last year ex«seded one million sterling. This ix likely to be doubled when the railway is completed. All the speakers, including several members of Parliament, were in favour of borrowing a sufficient amount to finish all • the main trunk lines. The meeting was the most enthusiastic ever held here, and it was resolved to cjntinue the agitation till the wishes of the people from Canterbury and WcsUand arc complied with.
