Colonel Collins, in uddressing u few words of farewell to the men, spoke of the difficulty of selecting u team where so many were entitlej to a place, and referred to the fuct that among the first twenty at the recent championship mteling wm several who had visited liisley the previous year, and were entitled t<i be chosen had they 'been üble ii. go. Some had been unable to accept the Government invitation, but ho was confident that those chosen would worthily uphold tile reputation of the colony. Referring to the appointment of Major Hughes t< the command, Colonel Collins ex pressed the belief that one of the very best otHcers in Xew Zealand had been selected—an officer in whom he had every confidence, and wh< knew everything about shooting The men must understand thai they were going Homo as a military team, and cheerfully submit to all orders from Major Hughes, who ulouo was responsible to the Government for the team. He asked for their hearty co-operation in support of the officer commanding, and he felt confident of the success of the team He mentioned that the War authorities would supply twenty rifles, and the uniforms for the team would b* obtained on arrival in London. Referring to the rifles, Colonel Collins said the experience of last year's team was that those specially selects Ml by the War Office were quite equal to match rifles, and he felt confident that of the twenty selected to choose from tlie team would have no cause to complain this year, lie taring to expenses, Colonel Collini said last year's return tickets had to t>e taken out at a cost of £OO each -his year he had arranged for single •ickets at £3O, so that a member of the team could select his own route 'or the return. The expenses nt the :ompetition in 1004, including board ind lodging and travelling between London, etc., was £25 per man, so hat at the end of the competition le was enabled to hand to each man £4O. In conclusion he wished Major Hughes and the team good luck, and .rusted they would bo successful in lefending the Kolapore Cup. He lnally urged the team to sink individualism and pull together as ono nan, which was the only road to mccess. Major Hughes briefly replied, cx-ii-essing no anxiety as to the result if the trip, and stated that he had napped out a system for practice, tc., which he hoped would be eflccuul at Home. The team left this afternoon.
