Householders' Meetings.

CENTRAL SCHOOL. The annual meeting of householders in tho Now Plymouth Central School district was held at the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. The Rev. F. G. Evans was voted to the chair, and there were under twenty present. The School Committee presented the following ivport for the jeai ending March 31 : -Mr 11. tAMiipsey has under him two male, live female, and foui pupil teachers ; or a total stall oi twelve. On March 81 there were on I i.e. roll HOI boys and 'JOU girls, total, 570 scholars, as against 57i< last year. Okey 9. —Balance-sheet.— The balance-sheet showed receipts is follows :—To balance on March 31, 1901, £3l 12s 9d ; receipts from Education Board, £155 18s 9d; voluntary contributions, £1 9s 8d ; total, £lB9 Js 2d. The expenditure totalled £143 13s 9d, the principal item beiny £lO7 Ij9s (id for cleaning schools and outbuildings. . The credit balance on March 31 was £45 7s sd, against which there were liabilities amounting to about £l2, leaving roughly £33 to carry forward.

The report and balance-sheet wereadopted, on the motion of Mr Catran, seconded by Mr .Carter. —Superannuation Fund.—

A circular letter was received from the New Zealand Educational Institute, with regard to a superannuation scheme for the public school teachers. It was resolced, on the motion of

Mr Woolley, seconded by Mr Uayne. "That this meeting heartily supports the scheme for a superannuation fund for teachers, and learns with pleasure that the Premier has promised to -introduce legislation that will give effect to such a proposal." —Votes of Thanks.— A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Uempsey and staff for the manner in which they had carried out their duties during the year was placed on record. The retiring committee were also accorded the best thanks of tho meeting for their excellent services during tho twelve months. —Election of New Committee.—

Eleven nominations for the nine scats on the committee were received, and the ballot resulted in tho election of the following :—Messrs W. A. Cojlis, T. Frethey, J. T. White, | P. White, F. W. Okey, G. IL Maunider, und the Hcvs. Osborne and Woolley (all re-elected), and Mr A. G. Catran.

A vote of thanks to the Rev. F. G. Evans for presiding concluded the meeting,.

At a meeting of the new committee held subsequently Mr W. A. (Jollis wns re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Tho Rev. S. S. Osborne declined to stand for the position, though pressed to do so by Mr Collis. , Mr T. C. Mills ■was re-appolnted clerk and treasurer. The meetings were fixed for the third Monday in each month at 8 pan. It was decided to co-operate with tho West End and Flt7roy Schools in organising a combined entertainment to bo held in the Theatre Royal at an early date. The Chu'rnvan. Messrs P. White, T. Frethev and the Rev. S. S. Osborne were appointed u sub-cominittec to confer with tho other committees'i'he Chairman was authorised to obtain tenders for the supply of FITZROV.

The proceedings at the annual meeting of householders nt Fitzroy tor the election of a School Committee were characterised by the great est good feeling and unanimity. Mr A. F. Foote presided, and there were about fifteen householders present. The outgoing committee presented a full report of their proceedings during tho past year, in which rofcrence was made to the planting of the ground, the raising and enlarging of the school, the initiation of the movement for forming a School Committees' Association, and the excellent work of tho teachers. The statement of accounts presented showed a balance in hand of £lO Is (id.

In moving the adoption of the report, the Chairman warmly eulogised the services of the committee, and congratulated them on obtaining the long needed improvements to tho school. The motion was carried with acclamation.

After a ballot had been taken the following were declared elected to the committee:—Messrs L. Steele, G. Davy, E. Lee, W. Griffiths, G. Francis. O. Colson, nnd A. Weller. A hearty voto of thanks was accorded to tho outgoing committee, and to the Chairman of the meeting. At the statutory meeting of the committee held at the closo of (jro housoholders meeting, Mr Steele was re-elected Chairman, and" Mr Weller aguin undertook the office of secret, ary and treasurer, WEST END. ' There was only a moderate attendance of householders at tho West End School on Tuesday night presided over by Mr 11. J. Gilbert. The outgoing committees reported (hat they had purchased and paid for an organ and sewing machine nnd had given £5 lor prizes. The school had been enlarged to mept the groat increase jn spholars, tho ftvprngii attendance for last your being 262, The services of the headmistress, Mrs Howling, wero warmly praised, and much pleasure was oxpressed at the result of tho labours of the teachers.

Tho accounts as submitted showed a balance in hand of £2l (is lOd. The following were elected to the conmiitcet, no ballot being necessary :—Mestrs Gilbert, Simmons, Mander, Morrison, MoWhtnnev, Seabright. S. Smith, Bennett, and 11 B. Gardner.
