THE WAR IN MANCHURIA.
f RUSSIANS AGAH DEFEATED. EXPECTED SEA FIGHT. EQZHBESTYEHSm HARD TASK. LONDON, April 17. It is officially reported at Tokio that the Japanese defeated the Russians near Heishibmu, ten miles to the northwest of Tasngishili, and pursued them further east. The Daily Telegraph states that •ut of 500 Russians' guns abandoned at Mukden 200 were recovered. Naval experts on Saturday anticipated that Rozhdestvensky, not desiring to be burdened with the protection of an unwieldy convoy whcit he meets Admiral Togo, would probably send his colliers to the Boy of Along or some other shelter to await the result of the battle. The experts also anticipate that Togo at the outset will hurl many of his cruisers at the enemy for the purpose of torpedoing and ramming the enemy's fleet, at the risk of absolutely sacrificing" some of the vessels, in order to re-establish the balance between his primary elements and the enemy's. The battleships' onslaught is compared to a cavalry charge.
