The Department of Industries ant Commerce has received the follow ing cablegram from Uie Agent-Gen eral, dated London, 15th inst. :-- Mutton.—The market is linn. Average price to->day for. Canterbury mutton is 4Jul per It), for light weights (which are extremely scarce] nn3 4{d for heavy weights, of which there is a large supply. Other North Island mutton is ijuotal at 4Jd per lb light weights, and S{d per lb heavy weights), and River Plate mutton 3Jd light weights, and 3Jd per )b heavy weights. There is a good demand for all lamb, and the market is firm. The average price to-day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is s;d per ,Ib, and of brands other han Canterbury s',d per lb. The beef market is quiet. Supplies of River Plato beef are heavy, .vhile stocks of New Zealand beef >n hand arc light. The average price to day for -hindquarters of New Zealand -beef is 3gd per lb, and for fores- 2Jd per lb.

The butter market is declining on accjum; of the Home supplies increasing, and. the market continues steady. Some holders are forcing sales. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 10«» per cwt, Danish! 105s. The cheese market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers, and there is less demand. White is 50a, per cwt, coloured 57s per cwt. The hemp market is dull, and prices are irregular, as a result of heavy arrivals. The cocksfoot seed market is firm, and buyers have been offering moro freely. Tlio average, price tor-day for bright, clean New 1 Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing) Klb per bushel, on, spot, is 54s per cwt.
