A QUESTION OF TAXES.
(Ter Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 12. Am interesting point was decided by Mr Justice Cooper to-day in reference to the goodwill of licensed hotels. The esVite of the late Mr Jacob Joseph included two hotels, the National Star and Gorier. The former \\«s valued aX £2835, and the latter at £OO7O. \u addition! to these capital values the Commissioner of Stamps claimed duty on the goodwill of the hotels, assessed at £<>ooo and £7OOO. The executors of theetttoite disputed the right to assess the goodwill, ibut Mr Justice C G oper held that the goodwill was pari, of the value of the estate and liable to duty. In the case of the Star und Garter the goodwill of the hotel was much greater than the capital value of the land and buddings,
