INVERCARGILL AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.
HECORD ENTHIES. (Per. Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, April 10. Ebtries for tho Axemen's Carnival to be held hero at Easter constitute a record, and their number places the Southland carnival In tho position of premier fixture among chopping and rsawing meetings in Australasia, For the chopping and sawing events alone :215 entries hnve been received, the •competitors hailing from Victoria, Tasmania, the North Island, tho West Coast, and every nook and corner of Otago and Southland. Although very handsome prizes, ranging from ££o to £6, are given, tho entry fees for many events exceed the prize money. For the £SO Chop there are 34 entries, and the same number for the Maiden Chop ; while for the standing Handicap Chop ther e are 41. In the Handicap Double-
handed Sawing, 22 pairs will compete. Entries for tho cycling and running events have not yet closed, but a sufficient number, have already been received to make it certain that the Axemen's Carnival this year will establish tn easy record, not only for New Zealand, but for Australia as well.
