COMMONSENSB PREVAILS. \nri\ ± 10 Tvm.l
(Received April 4, lO p.m.) MELBOURNE. April 4. The mail dispute ia settled, subject io the approval of Parliament. The Cabinet has agreed io pay the Orient Company £120,000. CONSIDERABLE OPPOSITION LABOUR PARTY STRONGLY HOSTILE. (Ileceivod April 5, 11" a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 4. Besides the Orient Company's offer the Cabinet discussed an ofier by Scott. Fell and Company, which was considered unsuitable. It is probable tho weekly serv.ice will be resumed before the end of the month, and if Parliament fails to ratify the new \3ontract, the old conditions will be reverted to. Tho contract is likely to meet with'' considerable opposition, on thtf ground that the amount is excessive, the labour party and a section of the general Opposition being strongly hostile to any contract above £IIO,OOO. The Postmaster-General declines to give details of the contract, or to state if any new conditions are involved. j
