BUTTER CARRIAGE.

NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS ASKED FOR. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 30. As the outcome of the need for better cool storage accommodation for butter carried by West Coast steamers to New Plymouth en route to Wellington for export, a deputation of the Auckland A. and P. Association interviewed the manager of the Union S. S. Company (Mr Irvine) on the question, and'asked that such accommodation be provided in the same way as was done on the steamers from New Plymouth to Wellington. Mr Irvine replied that the company realised the need, and were already building more steamers with refrigerating machinery. The trouble in the past had arisen when it had been necessary to send the surplus of the Botoiti's consignment by smaller steamers. He would submit the question to his company, and hoped a refrigerating steamer would [ be put on the run next season.

He deputation next waited on the Traffic Manager of the Railway Department, and asked for a greater supply of insulated trucks between Auckland and Onchunga, and on other lines on which butter was frequently conveyed. Mr Wait®, Traffic Manager, promised to secure as much improvement in the matters mentioned as possible.
