—*■ AN EXPLANATION, LONDON, March 28. , Replying to Mr Macnamara, in the Housj of Coimuons, Mr W. Dromley- ( Davenport;, Financial Secretary to ] the War Oflic?, stated that the War Office possessed the names t of Australian and Tasmanian contractors supplying jam to South Africa. Some ol' the tins contained only 12 ounces, some contained 16, the bulk either 14, or 260z, nominally in all 'cases. The War Office received the full quantity paid for. The South African authorities, under a misapprehension!, sold the jam by f net weight, treating tins as contain- , ing full pounds. J
