WELLINGTON, March 28, in .tho Appeal Court tho case tho King v. Sweeney was heard. Mc Bell is appearing for the Crown, prisoner being unrepresented. Prisoner had been found guilty of receiving £5 from ono Eskesen, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained by, one Wurdlc ; also prisoner was found guilty of being an accessory after the fact in order to assist Wardla to escape from an offence witti which he had been charged. Mr Hell did not attempt to argue that tho prisoner hud been rightly convicted of receiving, but aiiguwd that he was guilty of being an accessory. Tha Court reserved Judgment. Tho Court of Appeal heard awument in the case the King v Lawrence, a Christchurch ca»?, the question being whether «. certain telegram sont by the prisoner Lawrence had been properly rwjeived in ovllenco at the trial, when he was convicted of unlawfully using an instrument on :i woman. Tho telegram wus "Answer no question*. On ■«>■ way to you." Prisoner was not rvprewnted. For the Crown It was contended that the Eleetrieal LlmM \cl, 1881, made thu origiuul telegram which wn» handed in nt Wellington conclusive, evidence that It had 'been sent' by tile prisoner.
