Says the New Zealand Herald Wednesday last:—To-day is the 60th anniversary of the arrival of a detachment of the 58th Regiment, der the command of Captain Mataton, consisting of six officers and 200 men. Part of the detachment came in H.M.s. North Star, and the remainder in the schooner Velocity. Alter a fine passage the North Star frigato arrived at Auckland on Marah 22, 1845. The force landed, and was quartered, some in tarraclts, some insents, and some 140 in a hired, house. The Auckland Garrison' was commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Holme (96th Regiment). In his diary, Colonel Balnea vis writes :—" We found on our arrival at Auckland that the report we had heard from a vessel at sea was -quite correct, that the natives, under Hone Hekei ted cut down the flagstaff and burnt tnc settlement of Kororarilta, a t the Bay if Islands, ami defeated a detachment of the 96th Regiment. The military turned out in Auckland on picket duty every night ; several alarms took place owing to the impresifton that the place would be attackea a£ night. It was currently reported that Hone lleke was coming to attack Auckland, information having -been received to that effect oy the Governor, Captain Robert Fitzroy. DO YOU EVER WATCH A CHILD ? when teething and suffering from trie arrival of these necessary adjuncts to the human body, and long for a cure ? That cure is to be found in Scott's Emulsion, which removes the sufferings and troubles of teething by direct action as a tonic food which strengthens and helps the child's vital organism to throw oil and eliminate the conations that cause teething troubles. Yet while Scott's Emulsion will cause the troubles of teething to disappear, there is something better to be done. When the child is three months old, begin with Scott's Emulsion, which supplies earthy matter, lime, etc., needed to make teeth, and you find that the baby's teeth arrive oii time and without pain to the child. DO YOU EVER WATCH A CHILD when the child is suffering from teething troubles ? It is at this period that convulsions often attack children, and you have the horror of witnessing their really acute sufferings—always a pitiable thing where children are concerned. It is such a mistake to make light of teething troubles, just, because they have to happen ! But it is not necessary to describe these sufferings. You are concerned only in their cure. SCOTT'S EMULSION. The use of Scott's Emulsion is likely also to make the teeth more perfect. You have one precaution only to take, and that is to see thiat ow tho wrapper of the bottle there is a picture of a man carrying a big codfish ; if that cod'-fish is not there, you arc not getting ■ what we promise yog—a cure I You can obtain a sample cf Scott's Emulsion and the choicest of children's booklets for the year, "A Bunch of Roses," beautifully printed in colours, by sendingi 6d to Scott and Bowne (Limited), 483 Kent-street, Sydney, and mentioning this paper.
