(Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, March 22. Strong efforts are being made t< prevent the spread of ragwort ii this district. Finos have been in flirted with a threat of a substan tial increase for failure to cleai land. There is indignation at tin Government stock paddock at Tini roto being left a mafs of rnßwori bloom, as the seed is spread bj travelling stock. Mr \V. D. Lysnar, chairman of the Gisbome Farmers Union, to-night telegraphed a strong protect to the Hon. J. Carroll that the reserve had not been cleaned as promised. As stated, authority -was given the local inspector to put the natives to clear the land, but thai it is useless to entrust it to them, the work so far remaining undone.
