TEMPERANCE UNION CONFERENCE.
(Per Preas Association.) WANUANUI, March 20. This morning the president of the Ityomen's Christian Temperance l'ni 0 n r reported that a gentleman had offered to pay for the Opera House on , Wednesday night, and help with the cost of advertising if the convention would furnish speakers. The offer w«saccepted with thanks. The reports of the literature, Jygiene, and Maori work committees were adopted, the hearty thanks of the convention being accorded to Dr. l'oniare for preparing a leaflet in the Maori language. It was resolved that the Minister of Education be approached asking permission to circulate the above in Maori schools. Resolutions were passed as follows —"JUcjoicing at tire increasing number of governments entering into '_ - treaties of arbitration ; affirming it is desirable to prohibit the sale of '.- intoxicants on all coastal boats, • ■ > also on lake and river steamers ; J*'T and affirming the principle of equal Kpay for equal work.
