They left tin- place liim thing in the niorninjr, and did not return to llit! Trocudero until the afCern o on, when they were ari'cstod by IVteetive Benjamin and Constable |de I.oree on another charge. 'Jliey kalled at Ba> ley's residence, about mid-day, made some inquiries, and, after obtaining a drink, took th/ir deporlure. Mir Bay ley was away in town at the time, and an employee lamydilans Hansen le/t the house to go to town just after the two irten. Mrs Buy ley locked u|> the house, and, with her children, proceeded to Bell Block for tho afternoon. On her way she saw tho two men in company by the side of the read. The house was rather isolated off the main road. On arriving home at 7 p.m. Mrs Bayley saw indications of the house having {been entered. Later investigations dls-
closed that the children's money box, containing the sum of 10s, was missing from the kitchen mantel, piece, that a. sum of ii'2s 6d and a gold nugg?t pin was missing from a drawer in the bedroom, and that the room <i! tho two employees had been entered, a box and portmanteaux broken open, and a revolver ailiKlracted from Iftinscn's belongings-. Information was given to the police, and on the accused Black the missing revolver was discovered, while the. gold pin had been sold
to Mr A. Ccok, jeweller, of New Plymouth, the sauic afternoons
Evidence' in support of the charge was given by Mrs llayley, Joseph tlbiiry Uaylcy, contractor, Hans Christian Htinscn, A. Cook (Jewellei), ami Mrs Hale, of the Trocar dero.
'lhe prisoners denied the chargo of breaking, ns they declared they found the front windows o* the house left open, but finnllv pleaded Cfuilty to the charge as read. They were committed (tor sentence at the Supreme Court.
