I , scouts MKioTixa. l''avoured with excellent woathei', the opening event in connection with the Stratford Carnival proved very enjoyable ami interesting. There was a very fair attendance, partly ilue to the closling oS business cstaMishuienls timing the afternoon. The more important events attraoled good liclds mid some capital sport ensued. Tho ground was in good Order, and the oliicials being particularly capable, the meeting was curried out with smoothness-.. To add to the enjoyment of the visitors,, tho Stratford Municipal Band played some lively music in most creditable style. There was a strong contingent of "pcncillers," who appeared to be doing good business. Itesults are as follows :

120 Vai-d.s Shellieid Handicap, ill. Jt:t, and X.A.— This wan run in three heats, ; the iinal Ixing won by Hansen (lOyds) by half a yard, Terry (oyds) and I'owler (Byds) making almost a dead heat for second pluce. Time, llmin 2-r>scc.
