The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following dated London, 11th inst : cablegram from the Agent-General, Mutton.—The market is firm for tight weights, but there is only dull sale for heavy weights. Tile average prtce to-day of Canterbury-mut-ton is IJd per lb for light weights and 4 ',d per lb for heavy weights ; for other North Island mutton 4d per lb for light weights and 3Jd per lb for heavy weights ; for ltiver I Plate mutton 3?d per lb for light weights'and 3Jd per lb for heavy weights. | There is a good demand for all |lamb, of which deliveries are now increasing, anil the supply meets the 'demand. I Beef.—The market is very dull, supI plies of Hiver Plate beef being heavy. The average price to-day for hind-t[uarters of New Zealand beef is 3d per lb ; for forequarters, 2Jd per lib, prices being nominal The butter market, is very linn, and there is a good demand. The average price to-day of choicest New | Zieajland butter is IOGs [>cr cwt ; for Danish l()!)s, and Argentine U>ls. I 'lYade -in butter has improved, greatly. There is better demand for cheese for which the market i.f strong, and all stocks are advancing. The average price of finest New Zealand cheese to-day is 53s per cwt. The hemp market is dull. Tho price of Nbw Zealand hemp, good fair is £3O on epot deliveries, distant deWellington grade, to-day per ton liveries toeing similarly quoted. The price of Manila hemp (fair current grade) on spot to-day per ton is £3B 10s. Buyers have been offering for cocksfoot seed more freely, and the average price for bright clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171t> per bushel, on spot is 51s per cwt.
