The Noxious Weeds Pest.
A COUNCIL HRSEIIVE. <'r. Wood moved at Monday night's meeting of the Borough Council that a committee be set up .to inspect the council's reserve at Toko, with a view to reentering under the conditions of the lease if the noxious weed pest was not beinu kept down. This land was a valuable asset 10 the council, but he waf afraid from all accounts that the time the lease expired it would not bo worth the paper it was written 1111 unless -ihe weeds were kept ir check, The Mayor concurred. The land was a good asset, but if the weedt were allowed to go on unchecked il would in time be practically valueless. Some land in the district overrun Willi blackberry, ragwort, and other weeds had so depreciated thai it was not worth C 1 ail acre. Til ! deed, one man would willingly paj JD.jU to be released of his lease, bill the owners, the School Commissioners. would not release him from thi terms imposed, it was no use waiting for the Government inspector tc take action. The council must set lo the matter itself. It was agrfed that ptlie reservi committee should inspect the pro perly and report to the council.
