Ideul weather prevailed for the • conliniiiinco of the innlck between I Australia "nd New Zealand. The i Australians continued their first innings, which closed for 583, ti score I which was materially hel|>cd on U«lh 'days by the shocking fielding of the jNow Zleulanders. Gregory took his score to (11 Wore Wing well ■ caught by Mason in the long field, i Unit his innings was always fluky. i Armstrong carried his but through - for 12l>. the feature of his innings i being his lino driving, but hi- was ' missed wevei'sil times bil'orc h'is mak- > ing his century. The wicket wns apparently playing a good deal faster ■ than on the first day, and the bowling was very much better thun the • score indicated. When the Xew Zea'landers went to the wicket they made an excellent start, Graham unJ Ollivier playing Cottier and .Noble with every confidence, and scoring faster than the Australians did at the beginning of their innings. They . knocked both bowlers off, but (Iraham then threw his wicket away by slogging wildly at Hopkins, and disaster followed. Ollivier was smartly caught at mid-on. Sims l.b.w. to bis third ball. Mason wus bowled by Cottier, and with the ,last ball of the day. Armstrong foundMs way into Hlackjouk's wicket!, five wickets being thus down | for 102. Cottier was live tiuics "no- i balled' 1 by llannerman, but *'6n chan-i ging over managed to escape tho oilier umpire, though the opinion expressed unanimously in the press stand was that he bowlwl at least three successive ••no balls," with one i of which he got Mason's wicket. i The following are the scores : I AVSTKAUA.-Tst Innings.
