EDUCATION MATTERS.
AUCKLAND DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOLS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 8. At the meeting of the Education Board the chairman reported the result of the recent deputation 10 the : Premier relative lo the establishment lof district high schools. Mr Itobhs said it was evident that Mr Sv<klon |mennt to do what was right in the matter. He thought, however, they should get something more than nil indefinite promise. The former committee set up was empowered to Carry on negotiations on ihe subject and to' again wnilt upon the Premier. At a later stage correspondence was read from the Department to the effect that applications for the conversion of the Devonport and Grafton road schools into district high schools had been declined. The chairman remarked that since the letter had been written the Premier had promised that Grafton road school should be one of the schools to be made into a district high school. The question was deferred 1 pending the result of the coming interview with Mr Seddon. An application for a school at Otahuhu wofci supported by the Chief Inspector, and it was' dl-cided to refer it to the Minister for approval.
