Before shooting commenced this morning Colonel Collins announced to the assembled cotnpetßors that the executive had decided to increase the prize "money in the Outgo nmlt-h —with which the day's proceL<lhii»s were to start—from £O2 to £IOO, by giving 38 additional prizes of £l, eight of which would be additional to the tyro. The Otago match, GOO and 700 yards, ten shots, the final match in the series before the championship, t)egan.shortly before 6 o'clock this morning, under satisfactory conditions. There was a clear atmosphere and no wind, but these conditions did not last long, and shooting soon became wry difficult. A wind sprang up shortly after the 600 yards range was started, ami was just sufficient to disturb the course of the bullets, and later on the wind came up in heavy puffs, which upset the calculations of the very best marksmen, and some of the most experienced werrt don n for bad scores. At the 700 yards range the wind developed into a fitful gale, and the consequence was that men who came on with fair scores broke up utterly. At the GOO yards range Milroy (Nelson), who was at the head of the aggregates yesterday by four points, made 46, and increased his lead, his aggregate being then 409. Martin (Tiniaru) who was 8 points behind Milcoy at the start, ran up into second place with a aggregate of 404. His score was 49, the top score for the range. Shaw (Ohinemuri) cracked up and registered only 31, which sent him down several points. W. Loveday (Mauricevillo) retained third position with an aggregate of 403, havingmade 44. Wilkie (Upper Hutt) got 44, which brought up his aggregate to 400. Brummond (Dannevirke), with a score of 43. was 397, a fie with Shaw. At 700 yards Smaill was among those who cfacked up, having only registered 29, while J. Wilson (Christchurch), got only 22, and B. Marshall 28. The highest range saor» was made by MeGabnont, a tyro (43), who also won the match with a score of 87. The positions in the aggregates were again shifted somewhat during the last range, as may be best gathered from the list of the highest aggregates of those who are to take part in the championship match to-morrow. RAPIB FIRING MATCH (II), 300 yards, seven shots, the magazine not to be used. Time, GO seconds from the signal to commence ; highest possible, 33.
