Cattle,r-At Waiwakaiho on Tuesday I held my annual sheep fair combined with my usual -f o rUrightly . cattle sale. Between two and three * thousand sheep were yarded, and r there was a large attendance. Bidding was keen from the start, and »" nearly every line was sold at the hammer at very satisfactory prices. K nice lot of rams, principally Lcicesters from Messrs Western Bros., C. and W. Hoskin, and Ars- Street were well competed for, and sold at lair prices. Shorn lambs made 8s Id : to 8s 9d, woolly do. 10s to 10s 6ct. fat do. lis 9d to 12s, culls 7s 7d, i.m. ewes lis 8d to 13s lOd, 2 tooth do. 15s- «d. 2, 4 and 6 tooth do. 16s Id, wethers 13s 6d to 14s 4d, Leices- £ ter rams, 2 tooth, 2} to 3 guineas. There was a fine yarding of cattle, but bidding was very quiet and prices low. Weaners made 12s to 18s 6d, good calves 24s 6d, 12 to 15 months mixed £2 ss, store cows 32s 6d to 645. i At Stony River on Wednesday t there was a good muster of stock ►■ and average attendance. J There was a good attendance at Addington Yards to-day, aad fair entries in all sections. t - Fat Cattle. The entry was 179 >■ __ head, mostly fair to prime steers. Jt. " There was a slight improvement in the-market, and most of the stock ■n- was cleared. Steers sold at £6 5s $ to £9 12s 6d, heifers £5 15s to £7 8-, 10s, cows £5 5s to £7 ss. Per 100 £ H>, beef was worth 16s to 21s. j* Fat Calves.—A fair entry sold at £ 7s 6d to £IJ 10s, values being firm. ( . Store entry was small .= and the demand no better than of i' late. Yearlings 20s, fifteen to eighty -teen months old 30s to 595, two--4 year-old steers £4 10s, ditto heifers £3 5s to £3 10s, three-year-old f steers were passed at £5 12s 6d, •-- ditto heifers £4 9s Gd, dry cows 30s j- to £4 10s. j. Dairy Cows.—There was a large yarding. • -Good springing cows and heifers met' fair enquiry, but aged f. and inferior animals were difficult of sale. Prices ranged from £4 5s to k **■ - s Fat Sheep.—A moderate entry conJ;-" sisted mainly of wethers, including some station lines, which were kecn- £ v ly competed for by exporters. Butt chers joined issue with exporters for j the ordinary supply, with the result f- of a very buoyant sale at firm rates jj for wethers and an advance of quite jS Is on good ewes. The absence of •£ aged ewes is very noticeable at this a* season's markets. Flem- * ing, Port Levy ; good, young ewes «' generally commanded from 23s to I 24s 6d ; lines of moderate breeding and condition 21s lo 22s 6d, good I sound-mouthed ewes 21s to c!2s 9d, { moderate 18s to 20s, aged 14s to 17s 6d, culls from lis, good forward, wethers 18s to 19s 7d, fair condition- '.' 17s to 16s, backward and culls 15s \ to 16s ©d. A line of North Island shorn lambs, very mixed in size and condition, made 16s 7d, forward line 15s to 16s, backward to fair condition 13s to 15s. Pigs.—There was a good entry of fat pigs, which met an active demand, prices advancing 3s to 4s a head. Best aaconers sold at the rate of 4d to 4Jd per lb, heavy, weights to 3fd, porkers 5d to sid, and some pens even higher. Stores were a small entry, and there was a dull sale.

Fully an average number was entered for disposal by auction at the Durham , Yards on Friday. Bidding fluctuated, but on the whole values wer» slightly in favour of the vendor. Wei quote—Heavy draughts at from SfiQ to £35 10s; medium do., £l9 10s to £32. A pair of plough horses made £32. light harness horses, £9 10s to £3O ; hacks £6 10s lo £l9. Cattle.—At the Newmarket Yards .on Tuesday dairy and store stock were yarded in full numbers. Among them a lot of cows were penned. Ox beef soM up to last week's quotations ; cow 15s to 19s per 1001b. Steers sold from £6 10s to £lO 12a Cd; eowsj, £4 5s to £7 17s 6d ; dairy cows, £4 10s to £7 17s 6d ; empty "do., £1 14s to £3 6s; calves, -CI 6s to £1 18s.
