Australian Mails.

—-♦ OFFICERS DENY REFUSAL AT MARSEILLES. I (Received March 3, 9.57 p.m.) PERTH, March .'!. The statement that the Oiontes refused mails at Marseilles' was news to the ollicers of the vessel. Owing to bad weaither the vessel had to lie off Marseilles, and no mails were offered. She was 16 hours at Naples, and no mails were offered there. The ollicers state that if mails were refused at Marseilles they were foreign bags which the agent may have refused to accept. The officers believe that no English mails were sent to Marseilles. SUGGESTIONS FOR CARRYING ON,- , (Received March 4, 0.48 a.m.) LONDON, March: 3. The Orient Company protest strongly against Mr Hold's suggestion that they are deliberately in r dieting injury upon the mercantile community. They are willing to continue the service if Government guarantee five per cent, on the capital employed. Many persons concerned in Australian trade approve of Mr Bow-naggrcc's suggestion for a State mail service as a means of promoting unity within the Empire. They only insfot that it must at least equal the one which Australia lias enjoyed for twenty years.
