Referring to the Bible in schools question, he said this was still a phrase and little more. The Bible «%s not in the schools of the colony, and at present it.could hardly be saM to be on the ws£ there. It was the custom of our politicians, when it suited their purpose, tp raise the cry of "Trust the people ;•" but in this case they refused to act on this principle. Probably the besi reply to their want of confidence in the people on this' ifuestion would be to say, "We cannot trust the politicians who will not trust the people. We must appeal to them by the only power 'that some of them recognise^—the power of the ballot, and insist on our rights as Christian citizens being respected! by those who profess to represent our interests in Parliament." Referring . to the Licensing Act of last session, the speaker said it represented a great advunce on former legislation, and should bear good fruit in the near future. He trusted that everywhere people would strike out the top line. State Control and Municipal Control were red herrings drawn across the scent. Wherever tried they led to lisuch corruption that no one seriously proposed to 'introduce them in any known form, 'but always with sundry modifications. The Rev. J. N. Buttle, of New Plymouth, was elected President for the ensuing year, and the Rev. C. H. Laws, Secretary^
