Later. M Throughout the day the shooting>4l has not been of a high order from the scoring point at view, owing to a still and very shifty breeze acros* the ango. The day's business started at 8 o'clock with the 600 yards range of the Auckland match, but the hopes engendered by the previous day's shooting were doomed to disappointment. The flags on the range were Mowing to all the main points of the compass at theonethne, and (he most scientific shooters were baf- -. dad. Hawthorne's 99 for the Auck- * Jand match was under the circumstances a good performance, though 16 under the possible. The Wellington match (600 and 700 ynrd») followed rapidly on tt* heels. Being a ten-shot event, the rest of the day was occupied in getting it off. The shooting was indifferent until at the last range, just before the close,; when the wind dropped considerably, and the men got a better 'chance at the bull's-eye. At 000. out of a possible 50, 40 was mads in two places, White (Christchurch) 'andW. J. Cato (Tanadale) getting (hat score, with McKeown (New 'Plymouth) runner-up with 45. Marshall (Pahiatun), Morris (Muff). Wlroy (Nelson). A. Hyde (Hastings) and C. Cato came next, with each 44. The 400 yards produced nothing rsmarkable, and only when the i wind moderated was anything tike fair shooting done. One or two 44'b were then put up, and, It was only then that anything over 84 was totalled for the match. The 1 scores went up rapidly afterwards. ' Milroy (Nelson) came out on top '|with a score 0188, being just short 'of the possible at each range. His ' performance was applauded, Huu> ' phrice (Hastings), McKeown (Tara- - naki) being runners'up, each having ' scored 48 at 600 and 44 at 700. ' All down to 79 came into the prise list, and tyros won £1 with 73. [WELLINGTON MATCH, 000 and , J 700 yards ; ten shots.
