The weather is delightful to-night. NOTES BY " MOTIKOA." Mr K. 8. Kanjitsinhji, the famous cricketer, has joined the ranks of horse owners in India. It is rumoured that Convoy is to take on the illegitimate gume*. J. Belcher hus put Ustiuk in work again. Apollodoris, who won the Hopeful Stakes at Dunedin last week, is Hiisu's first foal. Brisa is own sister to I'uuijiero, Two of the best races at the Dunedin Cup Meeting 1 were llioso between thu full brother and sister, Muster Alix and l'etrovna. After Needlework's successes on the East Coast J. Hue disposed of the gelding to Mr A. V. Douglas, of To Muhanga. He is now trained by J. Cameron at Hastings. There being no telegraph office nearer than a mile from the Stratford course, people who intend making investments by wire must see to it that their ins*ructions, accompanied by the necessary amount of cush, arc despatched in extra good time.

I'rincc Loris, who paid the fine dividend of £2O 4s when he won the Wingatui Handicap last week, would probably have had to be content with second place had Sandy's rider (McCluskey) not been caught as the barrier went up. Admission will only be given to the Stratford course on March Kith and 17th on the distinct understanding that no betting is done except through the totalisator. A Christchurch correspondent states I that W. Clarke has of ready effected on improvement in Eurus and Tupora's condition, each of whom is brightening up nicely. They should be heard of in cross-country events during the winter months. I The yearling coll, by Ilotchkiss Simonias, who was one of those purchased by Mr G. J. F. Palmer at the 'Auckland sales, hod to be destroyed 'last week owing to his being attacked with tetanus.

I Cairngorm wo* taken on to Musterton after the Woodville Meeting, and will be located there for a few days before J»cing taken down to the West Const, where he will be raced. I Several Wairarapa backers of Inspnn at Woodville were greatly incensed at the stewards of the club giving a decision against the horse, which ticket holders lost a £lO ,8s dividend. The general opinion seemed to be that if Inspan had not moved out from the rails he would have won easier than he did, and it therefore seemed hard that Investors should be deprived of the dividend. The gelding had no difficulty in disI posing of the opposition in the event, winning very easily from Wind until Watts slowed down and the collision with Wind occurred. The l»t----'ter incident was most marked, but it is questionable if it had any effect on the actual result of the race. At the same time it seemed somewhat hard that unfortunate backers should be punished for the carelessness of a jockey in bumping, and certainly the bettor way out of the difllculty [sccuied to be lo punish Watt for his carelessness, or whatever it may be called.

lllack Reynard's owner is rc|>orled to have hud a win running inlo well over four figures over the gelding's victory in the Woodville Cup. The first race- J'etrovna won for Mr Jells was the Federal Handicap in Dune-din, when Ix'n King rode her nt 7st 1211), and she beat Pundns Bst lOlti, and Noblesse 7st 2Th for places and before the season was out she hud earned 1:183 in Mr Jell's colours. In the season of l!M>;(-4 she was credited in the " Heferee " records with £587, hut to that must be added the refund in the llugpiixw case, making the total £847. This season her winnings- come to £81)0, up to and including the Hallway l'lute. In all, therefore, l'ctrovna hus won £2222 for Mr Jeffs. The IVmedln Jockey Club made £525 prollt on tins Cup Meeting. The announcement that His Majesty has purchased Moifua, the (Irand National winner of 1904, from Mr S. 11. (iollan, has a particular interest for New Zcalanders, since Moifaa was bred in this colony. That the •Jiog son of Natator and I> o rfljigh may curry the royal colours of our King with credit will be the wish of every true sportsman. Sandy was struck out of the Publican's Handicap nt Dunedin owing to his owner, who is a bookmaker, being ordered off the course. The action of the club in nccepting this horse's nomination under the circumstances has been unfavourably com'mented on. It is understood that it was not until hnlf way through the afternoon t>hnt Mr Solomon was ordered off, hut it is only fair to the club lo add that they Informed him that ho might return and saddle up his horse for the race. This he declined to do. I'apatu, who has been off the scene since the last Wellington Winter Meeting, figures among the nominations for the Ohinemuri Jockey Club's annual meeting. The English trainer W. Hainhridga has secured premises at Ellerslic, and is having boxes built. He expects to have a couple of horses under his care in the course of a week" or so.

The V.R.C. meeting opens to-day, the programme including the St. Leger Stakes, Sires Slakes, Essendon Stakes, and Newmarket Handicap. Nominations for Wellington uutiimn meeting close on Monday.
