HE HOME MISSION: Upon tlio religion of the white man depends the religion of the coloured man. Upon the religion of the white man depends the fate of the British Umpire. The Home .Mission ministers to the white settlers in remote eounlry districts and the pioneer in the back blocks. It now supports two Missionaries. It ought to have six Clergy, at least, on its s'aff. The first need now is to provide a Home Missionary for Taranaki. HE MAORI MISSION: There are 20,000 Mams in the Diocese of Auckland; about 12,000 are Christian, of which number about 7,000 belong to the Church of England; the remaining 8,000 are heathen or apostate. In Tarana'<i there are about 1,485 Maoris, of these probably 1400 are heathen or apostate. Another Maori Clergyman must be sent to Taranaki. The Diocese of Auckland is assessed by the Maori Mission Board to raise £72-5 annually for this Mission. 'HE'MELANESIAN MISSION: The Church of England is responsible for the evangelization of 50 islands. Since the first Bishop of New Zealand founded this Mission (1848) we have been given the privilege of the lives and deaths of John Coleridge Patteson (our-proto-martyr), John Richardson Selwyn, Joseph Atkin, and others. But there are"some 15 islands still cannibal or heathen. Our responsibility is commensurate to our privilege. News, print.
