RECREATION GROUNDS BOARD.

The administration of the Uecroation Grounds is a. subject on which the majority of New Plymouth residents take considerable interest. Curiously eimtjgh, however, very little of the pifl'i'.'Oillgs of the governing hody ever imches the public eye. Occasionally thu.autocratic policy pursued by thuffioard lias been tlie subject of adverso comment by those who have the keenest desire to assist in forwarding the work for which the board is appointed, and no doubt this affects the flow of contributions. Naturally ,the townspeople wish to know how the affairs of the board are conducted., and the only channel for disseminating this information is the local papers. Probably our readers will learn with surprise that our efforts to keep them acquainted with such an important matter are nullified by the altitude taken up] by the [I present hoard. There was a meeting of this body on Monday night, and in the interest of the public a reporter of this paper was told off to attend tho meeting, but only to be informed that his presence there was not in accord with the board's wishes. The chairman, however, undertook that the secretary should bring to this ollico a summary of business transacted, and the ollicinl in question promised no to do. There the matter seems to have ended so far as the board is concerned, ai. no information was supplied ; but we take it that our readers will not be inclined to allow this state of affairs to continue I without a protest. If thOTu is need of secrecy in discussing the affairs of the board, then it differs from every other public body. Such an antiquated idea- is a decided reflection on the town itself, and has a tendency to militate Against the best interests of iijp fines! itsset which the town possesses.
