(Froni a correspondent.) The long-looked-for school picnic came off on Tuesday in ideal weather, and was a huge success. Early in the afternoon parents and children rolled up to the school grounds. Tea was served from 4 till 7, and had ample justice done to it. At 6 o'clock games were indulged in, and darkness alone stopped the fun. An adjournment was made to the hall, where dancing was kept up with unabated vigour till long after 2. Jletween the dances Captain Mace with his zpnophone gave great enjoyment, as also did the solos of Mrs Binnio and Miss Were. The children sang "Welcome," "The Indian's Grave," the old favouritps Cherry Ripe," " Come Lassies and Lads," and the old Highland and Jacobite song " The Skye Boat Song." Messrs Morris and C. Mace worked like Trojans to make things go, while the fact that Mrs Morris had charge of the refreshments was sufficient guarantee that all had their fill.
The local branch of the Farmers I'nion is collecting evidence to lnj before the I-and Commission when il arrives in the district.
