Presentation to the Mayor.

At the Borough Council meeting last night special interest attached B to the proceedings by reason of the . presentation to the Mayor of a hands somely framed photographic group of 1 the council, containing a suitable inj scription. Cr. Collis (who, in the absence oi 0 the senior councillor, Mr W. 1\ s Mrooking, made the presentation) _ said the councillors and stuff of the _ borough were desirous that the Mayor should accept the photograph as y a. memento of his year of oflice, and j- as a mark of their {appreciation oi s the services rendered by his Worship x to the borough. The Mayor, in acknowledging the 1 presentation, said it came upon hin v as a surprise. He claimed to be -thi f first Mayor of thy town who wai born in New Plymouth. He had al- ~ ways tried to do his best, and it t had been , a pleasure to him to try and bring New I'lyniouth, and especially Taranaki, to the front. Thai was his idea in forwarding the rej cent exhibition. His whole stake was in the district, and he hoped tc remain here all his life. In concluy sion he thanked Cr. Collis for tin; kind expressions he had used in making tho presentation. (Applause.)
