Mr Tavowier returned to .London hy tho last steamer, via America, to resume his duties us AfetMit-Ucnerol. lie went to Sydney cm the understanding that he Mould return to Melbourne to consult the Government in reference to the future management of the Agency, but sickness delaying him he sailed from Sydney without visiting' Melbourne. After Cabinet considerations the Premier has written to Mr Tavernen, condemning his hurried departure and informing ln'.m thnt he should hnve returned and ascertained tho wishes of the Government, concluding: "I cannot but regard your action as highly censurable."(Mr Taverner was charged by Mr Sinclair, the late commercial agent of Victoria, With being more or less ■interested in the strange practices of tho Victorian butter shippers and was recalled to answer those chargfrojn which he was exonerated by the report of the Commission.)
