(l'er l'rcss Association.) OAMAIU', Feb. 2. His Excellency the Coventor, accompanied by th! Hon. Sir Jo Ward and the Hon. 'J'. ,Y. Duncan', arrived in town to-day to unveil the' memorial to the local troopers who fell in the South African war There was a very large attendance of the public and volunteers-, and the day was beautifully fine. The memorial, which cost £l,-,00, is erected in the main street, and is a very imposing structure. Short speeches were made by his Excellency, Sir .)' G. Ward, the Hon. T. ,Y. ' Duncan ' the Mayor, and the Chairman of the County Council. In the afternoon a garden party was held, at which the South' Inland cadet shield was presented to thc winners, the North School Cadets.
