A REDUCTION IN KATES,
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 31. Though members of the Insurance Conference which has been sitting in Wellington lately, decline to give any information as to the proceedings, it is known that a new tariff was adopted, ami R will probably be found Hurt it involves a very substantia! reduction in rates, which will bring them, except for certain hazardous risks, to a level considerably below those of the State Fire Insurance Department. I'mlcr the tariff which has now been abolished risks were grouped under certain letters. For example, "W" included churches-, oflioes, and dwellings •• "X"- : manufactories, "V" retail shops and ■•7?' hotels, warehouses- etc' In each of these c | asK it ls , lnd( ,,._ stood substantial reduction rates are to be marie. On the other hand, where it is considered that a distinct fire hazard'exists, as in closely built blocks in cities and countrv towns, the committee of the Underwriters' Association will from time to time rate accordingly. it i 5 thought -that in resect of these risks that there'will be an increase upon rate tariff almost immediutfly.
