REPORTED RUSSIAN SUCCESS. General Engagement Proceeding. - Heavy Losses on Both Sides. (Received Jan. 29, 4.86 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 28. Ivuropatkin reports having occupied Kheigutaya after a lierce light, and taking a hundred prisoners. The Russians lost fifty killed, who had occupied Snndepu, the Russian cav- • alry attacking their left flank in the rear. Ivuropatkin claims to have occupied a defile on his left flank. Renter slates that fog and cold stopped the battle. Lokalauzeiger's (Berlin) Mukden correspondent says that a general continues. Losses are heavy on both sides, .and are particularly severe in the centre. Other advices state that the Russians occupied two villages. FIFTH ARMY CORPS. LONDON, Jan. 27. It is intensely eold on the Shaho. Japan is constructing at ,Yokosuka a 19,000 ton battleship, with a speed of 18J knots. She will be the largest and most powerfully armed warships in the world. They are also building two armed cruisers at Kure. It is admitted that the cruiser Takasago was lost with all hands. (The Takasago struck a mine). A fifth Japanese army is Ueing organised. General Kamimura commands it.
