At the annual inoeUng of the Canterbury Frozen Moat Company today a report was presented showing, for the first time in the history of the company, a low* on freezing operations for the year, which, with" the interim dividend paM in J una amounting to £8827 0s Id, left * total at deMf of profit and loss ac~ count of £6092 Os Bd. Thin rtwult was attributable to the unforeseen diminution of, stock in Canterbury, slaughtering operations ai Belfast and Fairfield having diminished by one-third, the figures bcinjr—For 1908, 950,741 lioad;«for 190 4(54 head ; a decrease of 342,987, or at the rate of 36 per cent. The! de- « creases in slaughtering for freeing ' were—At Heifnst, 182.925 shoep and 70,951 lambs • at Fairfield, 09,012 sheep; for local' consumption, 29250 shoep, cuttle, and pigs. The Chairman (Sir (Jeorge CHI- - ford) made a lengthy speech stating that the jKMdtion »uw due largely to the shortage or stock in Canterbury [and the consequent lessening of th« number of sheep and lambs available for export. Continual freezing of erne lambs was at the root of the falling-oIT, and the remedy lay with the farmers.
