DESERTERS.

(Per Press Association.) NAPIER, Jan. 20. Yesterday four seamen of iho steamer South Australian were charged with deserting tho vesscll. I They said they had left tho vessel because they hud Wlcd to obtain ' extra assistance at Napier, as promised, and that they were willing I to return to the ship if this was Amc. They were ordered to return to the steamer, ami pay costs of the prosecution. To-day, however, they procured one of ' the i.hip's boats and cleared away from the vessel. They pulled to iho J'etune beach, where they landed, leaving ,tho boat on the beach. The police are searching for the men, i.ut so far have not succeeded in triciim tliem.
